House Bill 2721

HB 2721 goes into effect January 1st, 2026

This shortsighted law will incentivize the destruction of irreplaceable historic homes, erasing our history and displacing long-time residents. The law will not result in affordable housing, but will result in a bonanza for greedy developers seeking to turn a profit by demolishing and redeveloping established neighborhoods.

We oppose this bill are seeking support from neighbors and legislators to exempt historic districts from the bill.

The bill also says that municipalities may not set owner-occupancy requirements, limit the height of housing developments to less than two stories, or set regulations that are more restrictive than those required for single-family homes.

While the bill aims to tackle Arizona’s limited affordable housing options by increasing the density in the city, neighbors in historic neighborhoods feel that there are other ways to do this without uprooting their homes.
